"Saftig" was an exhibition in East Berlin including work by installation artist, Jacue Liu and myself. We rented an old butcher shop and produced work specifically for the site. The show took place in June 2003.
My intervention at "Thüringer Fleisch and Wurst" underscores connections among the systems constructing the human experience. The pieces include "Plumbing Intervention" and "Heater". With these pieces, I was exploring the way that identity is constructed in the context of the physical body, the space it inhabits, social systems, and the history that develops. Representations of familiar components of our lives serve to accent some of the physical nodes in this infrastructure: household appliances, plumbing, ventilation, and electrical systems. The revitalization of the abandoned butcher shop created the opportunity to apply these principles to a space with a specific history embedded in it’s architecture.
